Futurescape and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) 7th Edition

“Earlier this year (2020) the Residential Child Care Project at Cornell University (RCCP), New York, announced the launch of the 7th edition it’s Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) system!

Futurescape is pleased to be the first organisation in Ireland to sample the new curriculum.  This was to have been a full TCI Training.  Futurescape contacted this five day training as the next step in it’s implementation of the TCI Crisis Prevention and Response System.  COVID-19 and the requirement for social distance interrupted the provision of full training.  However, two two-day virtual training sessions via ZOOM were provided by Dr John Gibson.  John is an independent child care trainer / consultant and a faculty member of the Residential Child Care Project at Cornell University.  These virtual training events will be followed by further two and half days to complete the training and fully certify staff.  John can be contacted at www.attachmentmatters.ie

Changes in this latest edition of TCI include:

  • TCI Theory of Change that clearly articulates the systemic connection between positive child outcomes, staff therapeutic actions, supervisor/manager support, leadership and organisational support and input from the RCCP, Cornell University
  • Updated material based on new and additional research and information including neuroscience and attachment
  • Updated safety information
  • More information and activities focused on use of self and self-awareness, working in the milieu, the effects of complex trauma and toxic stress on children and young people, and use of trauma informed practices to prevent and de-escalate crises
  • Adjustments in TCI activities based on our experience over the past 10 years
